Exterior
& Land
The Old Stone School building sits on eight (8) acres
of land--a large and an authentic slice of the Old West.
The property features 800 feet of U.S. Highway 14 frontage,
and easy access to the building.
One notable feature
of the building is the erratic original stonework. The
front wall is neatly done, the stones square and laid
in neat, even courses. But the other walls have rounded,
chipped rocks with no discernable pattern. Some of the
sandstone pieces are huge, and they bear carved initials
of old students.
The rear and East
side of addition is surrounded by a large Redwood deck,
which accentuates the private entrance. The immediate
surroundings are beautifully landscaped with apple,
apricot and aspen trees, native wildflowers and fragrant
lilac and rose bushes. There is also a vegetable garden
area.
Nearly everyone agrees
that the most outstanding attraction of the property
is the unobstructed, 360° views of the Big Horn
Mountains, the lush Shell Valley and the geologically
significant foothills. The current owner is rather fond
of the small stream that runs through the property,
and had planned to use it to feed a fish pond stocked
with native varieties of trout.
Included on the site
is the original log school house built on the 1890s
and a variety of antique farm equipment, suitable for
restoration or a rustic display.
There are no land
use or zoning restrictions in place that would prohibit
building additional structures on the property. Wyoming
has famously low property and sales taxes, so the possibilities
for this property are as limitless as your imagination.
